AtlantiCare has made a commitment to dedicate one percent of construction costs to public artwork. Much of the art is commissioned from New Jersey artists. It is one of the most ambitious projects in public art in the state. The program puts the arts front and center, enhancing AtlantiCare’s mission to build a healthier community, and I was honored to be selected as one of their artists.
I studied painting and illustration at Parsons School of Design in New York.
I’ve been working in advertising as a fashion stylist and set designer for many years.
This has provided me the opportunity to create backdrops and props for editorial clients such as Harpers Bazaar, Vogue, and Otto Japan as well as many retail catalogs and e-commerce websites.
I’ve always had a passion for art and set design. For many years, I’ve been lucky enough to
travel the world and have a career being able to use my aesthetics and creative skills. However, it’s one thing to create someone else’s vision and a whole other process to create your own.
Inspired by the sky, water, the soul and the elements, I started painting again, this time using my own vision without the constraints of art direction… and it has been exciting and fulfilling.
And reflective. Literally.
Reflection.
I’ve always loved seeing the sky in a puddle, a pond, a lake, or any body of water that reflects.
Apparently I look down to see the sky a lot.
My recent work has been inspired by the reflection of water juxtaposed with the texture of the land, sand or rocks that touches its edges.
Acrylic, Plaster, Resin and Metal Leaf.
Using a combination of materials along with resin enables me to create the reflections I see everywhere. Though the resin adds a slick shine to my work, my paintings all represent an organic element or movement.
I work on wooden panels as small as 8”x8” and as large as 6’X4’. If you see something
that I’ve created that is small and would like a larger interpretation of it, I can always customize a larger version for you.
The whole moon and the entire sky are reflected in dewdrops on the grass or even in one drop of water. Dogan Zenji
